All You Need to Know About MCCS's Military Spouse Preference
As a military spouse, finding a job at each new duty station can be an exhausting process. Luckily, MCCS is here to make it easier for you!
Hiring Preferences
Did you know MCCS has a hiring preference for military spouses that places you ahead of other minimally qualified applicants for most positions? To qualify for this preference, you must be listed on your sponsor’s orders for that duty station and must indicate on your job application that you are a qualifying military spouse. This preference can be used once per duty station and is applicable to any job NF-3 and below, Crafts & Trades, or Child and Youth positions.
PCS Transfers and Placements
When it’s time to once again PCS, consider transferring to another MCCS location. You can start looking and applying for new positions (with your spousal preference!) 30 days out from your arrival. If you don’t have a position lined up in time, talk to your supervisor and Human Resources about going into a Leave Without Pay (LWOP) status to give you extra time to get settled in and find a new position. This prevents any breaks in service and ensures continuity of your pension plan and other employee benefits.
For those working in our Child & Youth program, transferring is even easier! Thirty days out from your PCS date, notify your supervisor and Human Resources that you would like to participate in the MSP Transfer program. This is coordinated through MCCS HQ, who will work to find you a position at your desired location to transfer you into automatically.
Career Development
Even a single duty station employment with MCCS can benefit your career long-term. MCCS offers an abundance of training opportunities, online and in-person, to help you reach your career goals. MCCS Miramar was awarded the 2023 APEX Award, placing us in the top 100 companies for training and development. Our Leadership series has been written on and considered a best practice by Training Magazine, a global leader in the area of employee training and development. After 12 months of employment, you can even participate in the Tuition Assistance program to help pay for your college or eligible certifications.
